Greenberg Dominates Finale at Wild Horse Pass
The Western Fuel Altereds completed their final event of the 2015 season at the “Halloween Havoc” event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ. The event schedule called for qualifying on Friday for an 8 car “A Field” and a 4 car “B Field”. Those plans evaporated as a giant sandstorm made a direct hit on the track Friday afternoon, followed by persistent light rain. With Friday qualifying scrubbed, the format was changed to a Modified Chicago Style Shootout. Each car was given one qualifying run to set a ladder for a round of competition, with the 2 quickest winners of that round meeting in the final.
With this being the last race of the season, there was considerable attention being paid to the championship points standings. Lyle Greenberg brought a slim 7 point lead into this race over 2nd place Mitch Bowen, with Greg Holman a mere 2 points behind him.
The qualifying session started off with Lyle Greenberg setting a potential series record with a 6.39 at 214 mph in the first run of the session. Defending WFA champion Eric Gates ended up 2nd at a 6.68 and Mic Williams took his new Hemi...

Greg Holman Wins Old Tucson Reunion Race
Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, AZ hosted the Western Fuel Altereds at the Old Tucson Dragway Reunion event on April 11. The WFA ran a Chicago-style Shootout with all of the cars running two qualifying sessions and then the quickest two cars returning for the final. All 12 teams were in the lanes and ready to run for the 6:00 pm session on an excellent track that promised to give some great performances. The first pair of cars showed that the track really was great as Ed Middlebrook did a big wheelstand that had all 4 tires off the ground. The second pair had Mitch Bowen confirm how good the track was with a 6.646 at 207 mph for the #4 qualifying spot. Kevin Knowles was #3 just a couple of ticks quicker with a 6.642 at a booming 216 mph that eclipsed the WFA speed record. Lyle Greenberg ran a 6.629 at 209 mph for the #2 position. Eric Gates laid down the pass of the event with an incredible 6.476 at 206 mph for the provisional #1 position and the first leg of a new WFA ET record... RACE REPORT
