With black skies on the horizon, twelve teams pulled into Albuquerque Dragway all vying for the coveted cash of an 8 car payout. Sure enough, Mother Nature decided rain was more important than racing. Shortly after our mandatory qualifying pass we got drenched and racing was stopped for the evening.
Racing resumed Sunday morning with 10
teams returning. First round was quite exciting. With a density
altitude above 8000 ft, teams were looking horsepower. After several
7 second passes, Ron Maroney’s 7.14 was a close second to Dan Levitt,
Jr’s 7 flat. None had a more exciting ride than
Second round teams were looking to
step it up, and they did. The heat of the day had the track good and
sticky. Most teams stepped up with a couple running personal best.

The final round paired the Maroney family racing each other. Isn’t there some rule about having two cars with the same name? With the Saturday night rain out and work on Monday, the family decided to split the money and points and head for home.
The track was very impressed with our new race series and has already invited us back next year. We were just told to leave “Mother Nature” home. Thanks to all the teams that supported the event. A good time was had by all (except maybe Nervik).
