Fuel Altered Nationals
June 5, 2010
South Western International Raceway Tucson, AZ
The Western Fuel Altered series held their first event of the season. 15 blown alcohol and naturally aspirated altereds showed up to do battle for the 16 car payout. Several newcomers showed their face and a few ran career best numbers. Others struggled finding a tune-up or were plagued with minor problems. Overall this was a very good event for the WFA.
Danny Levitt, jr’s “Twisted Addiction” dominated the field running consistent 6.80’s in a field of 7 second cars. The final round once again, for the third year in a row, found Levitt in the winner’s circle. Levitt’s 6.86 @ 197.08 was too much for Frank Davidson's 7.29 @ 194.86. I think next year someone should put a bounty on his head!
We were a couple cars short of the anticipated turn-out. The heritage series race the weekend before claimed a couple victims. Richard Phillips hurt a motor and Becky Sylvester tangled with the wall. It’s good to hear Becky is ok and the rebuilding process has already started. Dean Oberg was loaded for the track when a family emergency kept his team from attending. We wish the best for these teams and hope to see them in Albuquerque, July 31st.
The RBS superchargers low et award went to Dan Levitt for his second round pass. Dan’s 6.814 @ 197.28 mph will also establish the WFA Series record. A special year end award will go out to the low et and high mph at the end of the series. Great Job Danny!
Special thanks to Hal Sanguinetti for great job he did as race director and announcer. Mark King was on hand taking pictures. Below is a link to those pictures.
